The chosen monk has to serve the church for his entire life and be confined only to the chapel.

Snake Island, Brazil

It is a 43-hectare island located at the Brazilian coastline. The place is home of the world’s most deadly species of snakes, including the Golden Lancehead Viper, whose venom can melt even the human flesh. There are more than 4,000 of them on the island. And, the Brazilian government has banned civilians from setting their foot over there. However, a handful of scientists are permitted every year in order to study the snakes, while no one else is allowed to visit the island.

Poveglia Island, Italy

It is a small isle located between Venice and Lido. This place is now completely uninhabited as people believe it to be haunted by the ghosts of plague victims. However, throughout its history, the island has been a quarantine station for the Bubonic Plague. But, now it’s no wonder that Poveglia is considered as one of the most haunted places on earth. Ise Grand Shrine, Japan

Located in Uji-tachi, a Japanese town, this Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess, Amaterasu-omikami. The complex consists of two main shrines and around one hundred and twenty five secondary shrines. Though this entire holy place is said to have been existing since the third century, the standing structures are dismantled and replaced after every 20 years, due to the Shinto beliefs of death and renewal. Moreover, it is believed that one of the main shrines comprises a ‘Sacred Mirror,’ called Yata no Kagami, part of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. The access to this region is restricted and only certain priest and priestess, who are members of the Japanese Imperial Family, are allowed to enter it.

Lascaux Caves, France

These caves, located in Northwestern France, are one of the most renowned examples of Paleolithic paintings. The magnificent artwork of the caves is believed to be created around 17,000 years ago and depicts images of large animals living in the area at that time. The Lascaux caves are even listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. However since 2008, the place has been completely restricted for public visits due to a fungal outbreak. And, only a few scientists are allowed to enter it in order to study the paintings.
