About Santa Claus

Certain things have been associated with Christmas for quite a long time, Santa Claus is one of them. We cannot even imagine our Christmas without a white-bearded old man who come forward and offer gifts to all. No matter which age group you fall in, you also wait for the presents that are being offered by them. But how did this culture start? If you are curious to know more, then read the blog until the end and sate your curiosity.

Let’s get started!

The original Saint was born in Greece after 280 years of the birth of the Christ. He was neither jolly, nor he was fat. He was imprisoned during "Great Persecution," when the people were torched and were made to renounce Christianity.

His attire and look were modified

For several hundred years, Santa had no fixed attire, but the Europeans modified the look, and it was inspired by the Norse Odin, who had white beards. Eventually, the rest of the attire was transformed according to the convenience of the people.

Not everyone believes in Santa

No doubt Santa means no harm to anyone, he is still associated with a few controversies round-the-world. During the Second World War, some political parties restricted the people from taking gifts from Santa.

The flying reindeers were not indigenous

The reindeers never fly, and the flying reindeers were not even part of the Christmas celebration, these were originated in 1822 by  Clement Clarke Moore. Also, this can be related to hallucinogenic mushrooms as the reindeers absolutely love them.

Santa Claus and Coca-Cola are related

It is said that the Santa in red suit became popular after the advertisement that was posted in 1930. Before that, the Santa wore all colors such as Green, White, Yellow, etc. As the Santa was liked by a major section of people, the red suit was accepted worldwide. However, it is said that the Santa in the red suit was first illustrated by the artist Thomas Nast and Coca-Cola has used it later by giving credit to the artists.

Ho ho ho...

This is the way many languages depict Santa’s laugh, but actually, this is a textual rendering of the deep-throated laugh. Eventually, it was accepted by the folks. However, still many non-English speaking countries do not have the traces of the same.

There exists a Santa clause association

This is a collective group of people who are the International Brotherhood of Real Bearded Santas (IBRBS) that represents Santas internationally. And, they even have a huge get together each year.

These were a few of many facts that you should know about Santa Claus. Hope you had a nice reading time!
